Off Post Housing

The average price of a home in Pulaski County is about $122,000 and in the town of Waynesville is about $152,000. The Missouri state average is in between these two, at $138,000. The price of a one bedroom apartment is about $530 per month; a 3 bedroom goes for about $1,000.

The small, 4,000-resident towns of Waynesville and St. Robert are located directly outside the gate of Fort Leonard Wood, about 10 minutes away. Slightly further out, about 30 minutes to the east and west, are the larger communities of Lebanon and Rolla. The average commute is about 15 minutes.

Lebanon, Missouri, has a population of 14,500. Home prices here are generally less expensive than in Waynesville itself and on average cost about $95,000. Rolla, population 19,600, has an average home price of $111,000. This is a rather remote area of southern, central Missouri, and the closest major city is St. Louis, two hours east of the fort. On Post Housing

Fort Leonard Wood on post housing is privatized and applicants may be placed on a waiting list until appropriate space becomes available. There are 2,300 units available for the base population of about 19,000. Key and Essential personnel have priority. On post housing forfeits BAH pay; utilities in new and renovated homes are metered and billed monthly, separately from BAH. 2, 3, 4 and 5 bedroom housing units are available; no information about appliances is currently available. No more that two uncaged pets; certain dog breeds are not allowed.
